about

Ritmo Patria (Rhythm of the Homeland) is the fruit of the collaboration of Cuban-born Mike Eyia's band and composer/producer Gregg Hill. This record features several of the Latin music-inspired tunes in Hill's compositional oeuvre. Hill and Eyia originally met in Lansing, MI where the later has been a fixture since the 70's. Hill began penning many of the tunes decades ago, inspired by evenings listening to Eyia's band as they captivated rooms with dancing. The record showcases Eyia's appealing vocals and tasteful guitar and percussion, underpinned by a rhythm section culled from Eyia's longtime band Orquesta Ritmo. The arrangements are further brought to life by John Gerwirtz's horns and Arlene McDaniel's colorful harmony.
Gregg Hill is not only becoming known as a prolific jazz composer, but also as the artistic producer of the recently established Cold Plunge Records label. Hill's compositions can be heard performed on The Outrospectives: LIVE!(2020), a melding of East coast and Detroit all-stars and the album Brothers featuring guitarist Randy Napoleon. Hill’s music is the feature of Rodney Whitaker’s acclaimed releases Common Ground: The Music of Gregg Hill(2017) and Outrospection: The Music of Gregg Hill(2020) on Origin Records.
